Chroma PowerPro 5: GB/T-Based Charge Recording & Playback Recreates Real EV–Charger Scenarios for Validation

In recent years, driven by policy support and rising environmental awareness, both the variety and volume of the global electric vehicle (EV) fleet have grown rapidly. To maintain an appropriate EV-to-charger ratio, the EV supply equipment (EVSE) market has also expanded, with more charger manufacturers, broader product offerings, and greater production capacity. This has resulted in EV charging scenarios becoming increasingly complex. Even when both vehicle and charger are designed according to the same regulatory standard, differing interpretations can lead to interoperability issues and failed charging sessions, eroding user confidence and hindering EV adoption.

To address these challenges, accurately simulating real-world charging scenarios has become a critical part of EV and EVSE development and validation. Building on its established compliance testing capabilities, Chroma has introduced a GB/T 27930-compliant charge playback function on the Chroma PowerPro 5 software platform. This function uses CAN communication data captured from actual charging sessions and enables full charge playback through the Chroma 8000 test system. By recreating test scenarios that closely reflect actual product characteristics, engineers can perform validation and debugging with greater accuracy, improving both test efficiency and reliability.

Common Scenarios & Testing Solutions

Why does a charger from Brand A work perfectly with EVs from Brand A—but fail when connected to Brand B EVs?

Occasional interoperability issues like these have long been a major concern for EV and charger manufacturers. In the past, engineering teams often had to repeatedly capture communication data during abnormal charging events and rely heavily on experience to reverse-engineer the issue, searching through large volumes of data to identify root causes. This process was time-consuming, unpredictable, and too dependent on individual expertise.

With Chroma’s GB/T 27930 charge playback function, engineers can now import captured communication data from abnormal charging events into the system and precisely recreate the exact charging scenario in the lab. This capability shortens analysis cycles and enables immediate validation of corrective actions after implementation, helping improve product quality and development efficiency while reducing uncertainty in debugging.

Build a Virtual EV–EVSE Database to Maximize Data Reusability

Beyond accelerating debugging workflows, the data playback capability of the Chroma 8000 test system serves as the foundation for building a virtual EV–EVSE database. Engineering teams can digitize the unique characteristics of various EVs and chargers, reducing reliance on physical vehicles and chargers while enabling a wider range of simulated charging scenarios directly within the Chroma PowerPro 5 platform.

The system supports mainstream data formats such as .blf, .asc, .txt, and .csv, allowing engineering teams to easily reuse existing communication logs to build proprietary testing data assets and establish a reusable virtual EV–EVSE database.
