Hipot Testers (High Voltage Testers) for Electrical Safety Compliance
Ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of your electrical products with industry-leading hipot testers from Chroma. Also known as high voltage testers or dielectric strength testers, these instruments are essential for verifying insulation integrity and preventing electrical failure in components, assemblies, and finished products.
Chroma’s hipot testing solutions are engineered for precision, durability, and ease of use—making them ideal for manufacturing environments, quality assurance labs, and compliance testing applications.
Key Features of Chroma Hipot Testers
Chroma’s high voltage testers are designed to meet the demands of modern production lines and testing environments:
- AC/DC Withstand Voltage Testing for comprehensive insulation verification
- Accurate Leakage Current Measurement for reliable pass/fail results
- User-Friendly Interfaces with programmable test parameters
- High-Speed Testing to increase throughput in production settings
- Built-in Safety Protections including arc detection and automatic shutdown
- Remote Control & Automation Integration via standard communication interfaces
Hipot and Ground Bond Testers
A hipot tester (short for high potential tester) applies a high voltage between conductors and ground to determine whether insulation can withstand operating conditions without breakdown. This process is critical for detecting: Insulation weaknesses, Leakage current issues, Manufacturing defects, and Contamination or material degradation. Hipot testing is widely required to meet global safety standards such as UL, IEC, CSA, and ISO.
Advanced Hipot Analyzers
Chroma’s advanced hipot testers are used in quality assurance sample inspection testing, manufacturing testing, and development validation. Some example products are: Power cords, Household appliances (IEC 60335), Information technology products (IEC60950), Medical equipment (IEC60601), Lab/testing equipment, Video (IEC60065), and EMI filters.
Guardian Hipot Analyzer
Chroma 19056/19057
AC: 0.1~10kV (19056)
DC: 0.1~20kV (19057)
AC: 20mA (19056)
DC: 10mA (19057)
0.1MΩ~50GΩ / 5kV max
Provides high withstand voltage test and analysis for optical couplers, HV relays, HV switches, and PV modules components, which have better insulation capability
Wound Component Hipot and Impulse Winding Testers
Quality verification testing for wound components including EV motors, servomotors, ascension motors, stators, transformers, heaters and solenoid valves. The Impulse Winding Test (WPT) discovers potential defects such as layer short, corona, and/or partial discharge which can go undetected during early phases of design and production.

Battery Cell Safety Testers
A battery cell insulation tester accurately measures leakage current (LC) and insulation resistance(IR) of battery jelly-roll/dry-cell as well as other insulation materials. The tester includes partial discharge (PD) and flashover detection to identify defects and potential hazards. Our Surge Tester is designed for testing the insulation quality between the positive and negative plates of a lead-acid battery cell.
Battery Cell Safety Testing
While lithium-ion MFG has matured, electrical shorts can still develop inside the cell after passing production tests due to burrs or particles on the positive electrode. If these cells, which are susceptible to failure, reach the end user, the results could be catastrophic.
Watch this video to learn how to identify and mitigate these occurrences in the dry cell stage before electrolytes are introduced.
High Voltage Safety Enclosures
Designed to provide a safe environment for Hipot testing devices, these high voltage safety enclosures act as personal protective equipment (PPE), reduce the hazard of high voltage discharge and safeguard operators from the dangers associated with High Potential Testing. These come equipped with a magnetic safety interlock switch and chassis ground connection that must be wired from the safety tester to the safety enclosure for safe operation.
